Nexia Maldives and Summer Island Maldives joined forces to host a one-day sustainability event on January 25, 2024, as part of Nexia Week in the Maldives. This week-long event is organized annually by Nexia, a global network of independent accounting and consulting firms.
Founded in 2007, Nexia Maldives, formerly known as FJS – Consulting, Tax, Assurance, is a prominent consultancy firm in the Maldives. The firm provides a wide array of services, including socio-economic research, policy consulting, development planning, management and financial consulting, and tax and assurance services.
This year's Nexia Week emphasizes Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) themes. The event attracted both local and international delegates to Summer Island Maldives, where they learned about the resort's sustainability initiatives. These initiatives feature reef generation efforts in the Blue Lagoon, an extensive coral nursery, and the largest 3D printed reef in the world, certified by Guinness World Records. Participants also took part in a coral planting activity.
Hamid Sodique, Managing Director of Nexia Maldives, expressed his excitement about the partnership, saying, "We are thrilled to collaborate with Summer Island Maldives for Nexia Week and raise awareness about the impact of climate change on coral reefs. This partnership underscores the fragility of our natural environment and the direct impact on our livelihoods. By addressing these challenges together, we hope to foster a deeper understanding and commitment to preserving our ecosystems."
Mariya Shareef, General Manager of Kaimoo Travels and Hotel Services Pvt Ltd, stated, "We are honored to partner with Nexia Maldives to host their event for Nexia Week and showcase the sustainability efforts at Summer Island Maldives."
Summer Island Maldives, located just 45 minutes by speedboat or 5 minutes by seaplane from Velana International Airport, is renowned for its commitment to environmental sustainability. The resort has introduced several initiatives, including eliminating single-use plastics, using renewable energy sources, installing the world's largest 3D coral reef, and implementing an eco-friendly mosquito control strategy. In 2023, the resort was recognized as the Leading Eco-Friendly Resort by the South Asian Travel Awards (SATA).
The Nexia Week event at Summer Island Maldives emphasizes the resort's status as a top destination for leisure and corporate events, highlighting its dedication to sustainability and innovative practices.
