The Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) has partnered with Chinese celebrity Victor Ma and the Tiger Shark Residence to create a short film focused on marine conservation. Supported by the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) and Maldivian, the film was filmed on Fuvahmulah Island, aiming to raise awareness about biodiversity and the critical need for ocean preservation.
Victor Ma, a 28-year-old actor, singer, and curator, gained fame as a runner-up on the talent show “The Coming One” in 2017. With over 16 million fans in China, he has become a prominent advocate for environmental causes. Fuvahmulah Island, known for its clear waters and diverse marine life, serves as a stunning backdrop for this initiative.
In the film, Ma dives alongside sharks, showcasing the harmonious relationship between humans and the underwater world. The visuals highlight the ocean’s beauty while stressing the importance of conservation. Scenes featuring beach cleanups underscore the vital role of public participation in protecting marine ecosystems.
With MMPRC's support, Maldivian provided domestic flights and equator-crossing certificates for the production team, demonstrating their commitment to sustainability in the Maldives.
Victor Ma’s involvement is expected to enhance global awareness of marine conservation and inspire collective action to protect marine biodiversity. The Maldives has long been at the forefront of marine conservation, with efforts including UNESCO Biosphere Reserves and coral restoration projects. MMPRC remains dedicated to preserving the Maldives’ unique marine environment for future generations.
