It safe to say that the bond between Maldives and Srilanka has increased with the new announcement of expansion in Maldives Operations by SriLankan Airlines as they introduce for the first time ever, direct flights from London-Male / Gan. The first flight landed at Velana International Airport on November 6th.
SriLankan will operate two flights a week as scheduled for flight from London to Male arrival Saturday and flight from Male’ to London on arrival Sunday. However, due to non-availability of parking slots for aircrafts at Velana International Airport, SriLankan has added afternoon UL115 flight from Colombo immediately connecting to London-Colombo operations.
Speaking for the media, the Country Head for SriLankan Airlines Maldives Operations, Fawzan Fareid highlighted the fast-paced growth for demand in traveling to Maldives from Europe and Scandanivia which led to the introduction of direct flights, London-Male’/Gan. Furthermore, Fawzan also emphasized on the capacity limitations in Velana International Airport which gives an opportunity to grow tourism further down South at Gan Airport which is to be commenced in December 4th.
