Over 780,000 tourist arrivals have been registered so far this year, according to the Ministry of Tourism. According to statistics from the tourism ministry, 784,170 visitors came to the Maldives in the first half of the year, which is less than the 831,549 arrivals that were registered during the same period in 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic. The amount is higher than the 382,816 arrivals in 2020 and the 494,924 arrivals in 2021, though, marking it as a record amount after COVID-19.
According to statistics, 115,228 visitors from India came to the Maldives this year, which is the highest number ever. With 94,279 arrivals, the UK is the second-largest source market, and Russia is third with 77,783 arrivals. 164 resorts, 662 guesthouses, and 150 liveaboards are currently in operation in the Maldives.
Furthermore, to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Maldives tourism this year, the government will host events throughout 2022. 1.6 million tourist arrivals are anticipated this year, according to the tourism ministry and other industry participants.
